Next, the chef proceeded to cut the tail

And sliced into two

The bones are completely removed (ps - the bones are sold too)

Cheek - this cost $100 per piece

Isetan - Tohoku Fair

The sushi served during the Tohoku fair was very fresh and good.

This is my favourite sushi. I have always liked mackerel but I do not like the numerous bones in the fish.
Hence, this sushi allows me to have huge chunks of mackerel but yet boneless.
On the left, the mackerel is marinated with vinegar.
On the right, it is just fried mackerel.

I am still quite sore that I could get hold of the cheese cake.
It was sold out within the first day of the fair. =(

Kyushu Fair

I am supposed to post these pictures long ago. Sigh...

This is one of the fairs that I am anticipating for.
You will know why later.

These are the items that we bought...

Fried Octopus

Scallops glutinous rice (they are the best especially when it is served piping hot) - I have been waiting for this to be here.

Grilled Scallops to go with the rice

Octopus

And of course, chocolate donut.

Yummy!

$3 Sweet potato

Bought this at Isetan Shikoku fair. Coated with 8 yr old honey... Bliss~

Today's fair was a bit disappointing.
Did not managed to find sufficient food for our breakfast.

Most of the food items are meant to be consumed at home, such as yuzu drink, yuzu vinegar, black sesame spread, green tea, udon, miso paste etc.

I did managed to try a piece of the $60 plus melon though =)

Isetan Fair - Hokkaido

Hokkaido Fair is here.
This time round, it was first held at Isetan Orchard.
After which, the fair was held at Isetan Tampines.

During our visits to Isetan Orchard, we had:

Takoyaki (Scallops and Octopus versiosn) - We still prefer the Octopus ones as we could barely taste the scallops

Grilled Seafood - Salmon belly and scallops - Salmon belly too salty, Scallops nothing great. The usual seasoned ones are better.

Grilled Squid - Tasteless and Gross

Crab and Sea Urchi Bento - Nice

Bought the cheese tarts - Last year this was completely sold out. Not bad - There are still a few boxes left in Tampines yesterday.

This is how it looked like

Curry Bun from Pullman Bakery - Been having it at least once every week these days...

And of course, bought several boxes of Shiroi Koibito. They were all snapped up in Tampines.
Only thing that I did not managed to get was the wafer biscuits. Will get it the next time I am there...

Isetan - Kyushu Fair

We went to the fair at Isetan for 2 consecutive weeks at Isetan, i.e. 11 to 22 March 2010.

Takoyaki - This was one of the best that we have ever tried. Ordered this twice. This is served hot with a huge slice of octopus. Yummy!

Seasoned Squid

Fried Squid - This is perfect if you like to have huge chunks of squid..

Seasoned Scallop

Potato Croquette - Got cheated again. When we sampled this at the counter, there seems to be additional ingredients inside. But, when we got this, it was just plain potato. Hai.

Fried Smelt Fish - This taste a bit similar to shisamo

I also topped the visit with a nice bucket of kumquat from kyushu. This cost 9 dollars.
This is taken together with the skin, which is not as sour as compared to the fruit.

My Ramblings...
This food selection served is pretty good. My favourite dish is the Takoyaki.
The Kyushu fair is one of the largest fair by Isetan, apart from Hokkaido.
This fair will now be held at Tampines Mall from 26 March to 4 April.
Will definitely give this fair a miss as the crowd at Tampines is always 4 to 5 times more than Orchard...

Isetan - Osaka Fair

This week features the Osaka Fair.

Some of the things which we bought were:

This is similar to okonomiyaki minus the vegetables. It is called Ikayaki. We ordered the mixed type, which consists of bacon, egg, spring onion and octopus.

Saba Sushi - This is so good. Mackerel without the bones yummy.
They also have the raw version as well. It tastes good too!

Anago Sushi

Shisamo Tempura

Scallops Tempura

My Ramblings...
This was so goood!

My favourite dishes were the raw and cooked mackerel sushi. I have always like mackerel as it is a tasty fish to indulge in. However, it has many bones in it which tends to put me off. Having mackerel served in the form of sushi is perfect as there are no bones to handle!! Having it cut thickly makes the whole experience heavenly with its fishy taste.

Another dish that was good was tempura shisamo. Unfortunately, this has to be consumed immediately as the tempura batter tends to get oily and sticky once it gets cold. We managed to get both scallops and shisamo right after it was cooked.
