My Ramblings...

Crystal Jade was never my preferred choice for dim sum because of its BBQ buns. The dough used wasn't very good, unlike Tung Lok.

Their vinegar pig trotters was nothing great. There was nothing inside, except for skin and ginger. Disappointing though...

Red Mansion

The ambience of this restaurant is similar to Grand Shanghai, except that this is a cheaper version. This restaurant is located at Circular Road.

Went there for lunch. They have thi $9.90 set, comprising of:

- Soup of the day or salad
- Main Course
- Drink

Soup of the day - Corn and carrot soup

This is the "Chef's special" - Chinese sausage fried rice with sunny side up and chicken wing

A cup of coffee

My Ramblings...

I was quite disappointed with the food though.

The soup base has lots of MSG in it and the ingredients looked as if it was cooked separately from the soup. If I am not wrong, I have used the MSG before and can be found in local supermarkets.

As for the fried rice, you cannot go very wrong with chinese sausage in your fried rice. But I was quite surprised to see burnt bits in the rice....

This will be a good place for drinks at night. But definitely not a place for lunch.

Champagne Event @ Rogues

We went for the Champagne Tasting Event at Rougues on Monday.

At the event, we sampled a total of 4 wines. Food was also served.

My Ramblings...

I was very very disappointed with the event. Firstly, we were not informed that any additional drinks will be paid separately. It was only until our drinks were served that we realised that this was not part of the event. Initially, we thought that it was just us. After a few observations, I realised that most patrons are not aware of it as well. It would have been better if there is a simple menu on the table, highlighting what is to be expected.

The whole event was like just sitting down and chatting with friends and not knowing what will happen next. The food was served at 8pm to 8.30pm, which was like after the second wine.

One thing which I was very upset of was insufficient food and bad service. There wasnt enough food to go around and there is only one chef in the kitchen preparing. The kitchen was located some distance away from the restaurant and you can see that one pathetic chef preparing all the food while there are 3 to 4 waitress looking.

The service was so bad. While the waitress was serving, her whole tray of wine glasses toppled and spilled over the place. Not once but twice!! In addition, the waitress could not be bothered to answer any queries posed by patrons.

This falls below my expectations of the place as I have heard good reviews about the events held at Rogues....

My Ramblings...

I could not stand their service. The staff does not know the cakes in the display. Isn't it the first thing you should know. Not one staff but two. They had to literally find me the person who knows something about the cakes. And the response I had was "This is chocolate", "This is coffee", "This is cheesecake".

And, the place was so stuffy although they had the air-conditioning....

I would prefer TCC anytime...

Canele Patisserie

I always feel that Canele is overated. This is like my third or fourth time there and I am still not impressed. This will be last visit.

It all started with my friend recommending me this particular cake - with nutella content. I still remember how disappointed I was. Still prefer Marmalade Pantry's nutella cupcake. At least it has a thick slab of nutella on top.

Ordered the Croque Madame - Home made bread baked with ham, swiss gruyere cheese and sunny side up.

This is Chocolate Classico. The cake was soooo dry. The only thing that I liked about this place is the white slab of cream beside the cake.

Oh. And I ordered Rose Tea. The tea was so light that the colour was still white.

My Ramblings...

Disappointed is the word. The food was nothing fantastic. Although I quite like the christmas tree with chocolate bulbs item. But, beside selling pretty design stuff, I do not really crave for their food.

I used to go Canele to have tea. But, after yesterday, I decided this will be the last time. The rose tea was colourless and had a faint smell. It seems like water lor.

Service was bad. I literally had to wave and wave to get the necessary attention.

Well, maybe it's the preceived brand that attracted people there... Yes, it's the brand. I am not going there again.
