Dinner at Szechuan Court

Went to Szechuan Court at Fairmont Singapore for my birthday dinner with dear. Stayed at Fairmont Singapore for a night as I have won a free night stay and some F&B vouchers. Coincidentally, that day was also the day when Swissotel Raffles rebranded themselves as Fairmont Singapore.

Szechuan Court

Our Table. Loved the romantic ambience.

Let's talk about the food... We ordered their limited edition abalone set menu, consisting of 8 courses and cost about S$138++ per person. Fortunately, we have some vouchers to defray a majority of the cost.

"A symbol of wealth, luck and good fortune, the prized mollusc is one of the most expensive ingredients used in Chinese cooking and is considered to have both medicinal and aphrodisiac properties."

The chef that prepares this set menu is Sebastian Goh.

Our first dish (the appetizer) - Part 1

Our first dish - Part 2 (See the sliced abalones!!)

First dish - Part 1 & 2 (in total) - I believe this dish is "tempura of mini-abalone with Thai honey, mango and spices"

This is the abalone in Part 1 of the appetizer.. mini abalones...

The soup.. Drank quite a substantial bit before I remembered to take pictures...

The next dish. I have forgotten what is the dish's name... Seems like steamed abalone with garlic paste and soy sauce

Braised five head South African abalone with broccoli

Abalone salad with tomato

Abalone with osmanthus flowers. I think

The dessert..

I never had so many abalone dishes in one meal... Felt so blissful yet sinful.

Rating - 10/10 (Perfect)

Note: The system of "heads" is used to determine the weigh of an abalone. It is determine based on the number of abalones that make up 1 jin.

Crabs

I love crabs.

Three years ago, I wasn't into crabs as I am quite lazy to remove the shell. I just have no interest until I met my boyfriend.

One day, he brought me to No Signboard at Esplanade. Still remembered pestering him to teach me how to deshell the crabs effectively. We had chilli crabs and man tou and I was so hooked to crabs after that. And I loved the man tous. My record was 10 man tous at one go (according to dear.. he counted).

Tried Long Beach Chilli Crabs (with dear) and Jumbo black pepper crab (with my collegues).

On a weekday last week, dear met with his friend for dinner and I went to Don's for Crab bee hoon (my second time).

On Sunday, I had the famous crab bee hoon in Ang Mo Kio. There are two shops there and they are owned by brothers. We went to Melben. We had two types - bee hoon and chilli crab. The chilli crab is nothing special but the soup bee hoon is sooo good.

We had two medium crabs and there were huge. Recalled seeing the next table having large crabs and the pincers were GIGANTIC. Unfortunately, no pictures were taken as my hands were filled after waiting for half an hour for the food.

Argh... I will go there again.. Oh.. and Melben is so much cheaper than No Signboard. Hee.. Yummy.. Too bad they are going to close for renovations next month. I am getting hungry.
