Yusheng @ Soup Restaurant

My camera battery was flat and hence I had to capture the images through my phone instead.
Resolution wasnt very good though.
It has been so long since I used my phone to take pictures.

My Ramblings...
This was our usual spread every year.
But somehow, I still prefer having fried yam in our yusheng...

Yusheng @ Crystal Jade

We initially wanted to go to Soup Restaurant for Yusheng, as that was our yearly outing for Yusheng.

However, we realised that Soup Restaurant has not started serving Yusheng. Hence, we decided to try the yusheng at Crystal Jade instead.

We were so satisfied.

Braised Peanuts

Salmon Yusheng

E-Fu Noodles

My Ramblings...
This is so good!

For their yusheng, they used strips of fried yam, which gives the yusheng a interesting and crispy taste.

Their E-Fu noodles is good too. The sauce was very tasty and generous in amount.

Yummy!

CNY Dinner @ Zhou's Kitchen

Went to Zhou Kitchen for CNY Dinner.
Zhou Kitchen belongs to the Tung Lok group, which has one of the best dim sum in Singapore.

We ordered the 168 set for 4 people.

Yusheng

Braised Sharkfin with Dried Seafood in Pumpkin Broth

Deep fried prawns with wasabi mayo sauce

Braised Spinach Beancurd with Mushrooms and Vegetables

Coffee Pork Ribs with Almond Flakes

Stewed Spring Chicken with Chinese Herbs

Chilled Mango Pudding

My Ramblings...
The food was alright.
I love the Stewed Chicken and Mango Pudding.

However, service was quite bad.
One of the waitress pretended not to see us and hide behind a guy waiter so that she do not have to serve us.

One thing that we are very puzzled - the waitress and manager recommended a cheaper set to us instead of the 168 set. Apparently, the cheaper set has lesser variety and gives 4 tiger souvenir cups instead. Hmmm... Quite unusual for service staff to highly recommend a cheaper set though.

2010 Reunion Dinner

This year, we decided to have our reunion dinner outside rather than the usual steamboat at my granny place...

We had our reunion dinner at one of the zi-char stall in Bedok.
Total damage for a table for 10 people - 438

My Ramblings...
I am so disappointed. Due to the huge crowd for reunion dinner, the food quality was so-so and the price was so expensive. In addition, we had to wait for a loong time before all our food is served. Sigh...

Winter Hokkaido (29 Jan to 7 Feb) - Part 2

We went to the Hokkaido Fair the following week to try out the food again.
This time around, we were more selective of the food we ordered - no creamy dishes, no rice dishes etc.

I must say we were more impressed with the food this time around.

Curry Bun from Pullman Bakery

Takoyaki

Scallop Bun

Potato Croquette

Sapporo Beer

My Ramblings...

Overall, we were so much more impressed with the food.

1. Curry Bun
It feels like having Japanese curry in a bun.
The bread is chewy and goes very well with the bun. Yummy.

2. Octopus Takoyaki
This is so much better as compared to the scallop takoyaki. At least there is a decent size of octopus in each takoyaki

3. Scallop Bun
This is sooo good. An interesting and delicious combination.

4. Potato Croquette
Nothing fancy, just pure potatoes

One thing that I am quite disappointed - did not manage to try the Hakodate Cheese Tarts. Still wondering how nice it would be...

Winter Hokkaido (29 Jan to 7 Feb) - Part 1

Went to the Hokkaido Fair on the second day of its launch.

Scallops Takoyaki

Crab Bento

Fishcake

Scallop Bun

Taraba Crab Bun (also known as Oni Ni Kan Bo)

Rating:

My Ramblings...

The food is overrated. Only one thing met our expectations and that is, the octopus fishcake.

1. The takoyaki has too much dough in it such that we could not find any bits of scallops.
In addition, the lady selling takoyaki insisted that we pay at the booth itself.
Hence, we needed to look for more purchases to hit the $50 for the lucky draw.
We later found out that each booth provides the option of paying at the booth or at the Isetan cashier. We felt so cheated!

2. The crab bento was too expensive for the amount of crab.

3. The scallop buns has two scallops inside, with cream like filling.
The taste is quite good except that it is too rich and finishing it was challenging.

4. The octopus fishcake was the best dish as it tasted exactly like what I expected it to be - a fishcake with octopus bits.

5. Finally, the taraba crab bun was creamy with chopped pickles (the kind you find in a Macdonald Fillet O Fish). You cannot really taste the crab as the cream sauce and pickles overwhelm the crab.

Somehow I cannot believe that the Hokkaido Fair has scored only 1 heart. Hence, I will give them a second chance this weekend. Stay Tuned.
