Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao

Went for dinner at Crystal Jade La mian xiao long bao yesterday. Was quite disappointed with their spread and pricing.

A common trend among all the restaurants that I have been so far, whenever there is any change in menu,
1. Price will go up
2. Less value for money food

Back to the restaurant, they have changed the outlook of their menu and had two cute characters as the main highlight of the menu. In addition, they have changed their thick menu format to a brochure kind of format. Am not really impressed with the new "look" as it does not carry out their brand name (sophisticated yet value for money impression)

Prices have have increased (which is a common thing) and they no longer have those ultra value for money set meals. They used to have a 30 bucks set that allows one to choose a side dish, a cold dish, a main dish (either noodle or rice) and dim sum (e.g. xiao long bao). During their last revamp, they have restricted their variey of items. This time round, they have expanded the number of fixed sets but it is far from what they used to have.

Lastly, we tried one of our usual dishes there - Shaoxing Wing Chicken (cold dish). Not only have the prices increase, the chicken meat is so much smaller and tougher. Very very disappointed. Din really try their xiao long bao this time as it seems that xiao long bao is no longer the highlight of the restaurant. The noodles seems to be the highlight of this season though.

Rating - 2/5 (Sushi Tei and Ichiban Tei have both changed menus quite often and yet managed to ensure their customers are satisfied despite the increase in price. Popular items remain there and the quality is not compromised.)

May go there once in a blue moon if I miss their side dishes. Otherwise, I would rather go to Imperial Treasure or Din Tai Fung.

See the chunk of birdnest?

It tasted like the dim-sum custard bun with salted egg. You can see a generous chuck of bird nest in the middle but when you put the whole piece in, you can hardle taste it. I was already trying my best to taste the bird nest. Hee.. Nevertheless, it is quite interesting to be able to try out the hype about bird nest mooncakes.

Rating - 2/5 (from a practical person point of view)

My take, I still prefer my traditional mooncakes from Sheraton Li-Bai. Chewy and traditional. To date, I have finished 2 boxes (oops).
