K-ki (ケーキ)

K-ki
7 Ann Siang Hill
Singapore 069791
Tel: 6225 6650

Opening Hours:
Tue to Sat : 12pm to 7pm
Sun: 1pm to 7pm
Closed on Monday
===================================

This cafe serves Japanese inspired cakes.
It also has a vintage store that sells quite innovative gifts.
There's this 3 year diary where you can select the dates via a parking coupon.

I liked the decor of the cafe.
It reminds me of the cafe that we been to in Hokkaido.

I ordered the Fromage Melon, which is cheese with rock melon centre.
The mousse is light (not too cheesy) and when paired with the sweet rock melon, it made my heart flutter.
And paired with a cup of latte, it just makes the whole experience so heavenly.

Will I come back?
Definitely! This is THE place to re-energize! The prices are quite steep (i.e. $7 to $8 per piece) but it is definitely worth it!

Royal Milk Tea Souffle Cheese $7.50

HTC One X+ Review

As I am a food blogger who loves to take pictures of delicious food, it is important to have a camera with me at all times. Also, it has to be easy to bring around. Hence, often that not, I have always used my phone to take these pictures.

Recently, I was given this opportunity to try out the HTC One X+ phone.
This is definitely one of the best phones that I used so far.
It allows me to take continuous photos, without any lag.

I have taken some pictures at my favourite high tea place (Rose Veranda) during my birthday.

Teppei Japanese Restaurant

Teppei Japanese Restaurant
1 Tras Link
#01-1863 Orchid Hotel
Tel: 6222 7363
================================

Teppei is a very small restaurant that seats less than 20 people.
The place reminds of Sushi Dai in Tsukiji market where we queue 1 hour just to get in.

Teppei serves Omakase at three price points - $40 , $50 or $60 per person. This has got to be one of the cheapest Omakase in town. Omakase (お任せ) simply means you let the chef decides on the menu.

This is one of the restaurants that has perpetual long queues during lunch.
Hence, we decided to give it a go during dinner.

Advance reservations is required if you want to try out their Omakase.
As we came without a reservations, we can only try their ala carte.

One of my favourite dishes is the squid cooked in butter.
The squid is not overcooked and when paired with the butter, it taste so heavenly.
We literally slurp up the sauce as if it is soup.

Will I come back again?
Definitely, I will want to try their Omakase next.
But, I will need to remember to make a reservation beforehand.
When we stepped out, a couple already started making reservation for their next visit, which is 2 months later!

Carousel

Carousel - I have been to Carousel several times but wasn’t very impressed with the buffet spread even though it was supposedly to be on par with The Line at Shangri-La. However, my impression of Carousel got slightly better during my recent visit for my boyfriend’s nephew 1 year birthday celebration.

They have recently introduced a teppanyaki live cooking station, where there are live prawns, beansprouts and garlic rice. This is the first time that I actually loved the cooked food section of a buffet and I could just took at least 2 to 3 servings of teppanyaki food.

Although I am a buffet lover, the focus is typically centered on the cold seafood and desserts, rather than the cooked food section. I usually find the cooked food taste normal, hence its not worth the effort to go for another round.

There are two highlights at Carousel:
1. Live Prawns – I know this is cruel but I love the tanginess of the prawns with this cooking style. I must admit I am no animal conservationist.
2. Nespresso – A Nespresso machine where you have a choice of several coffee blends. However, the variety of tea is lesser, probably due to the Nespresso machine. I am not complaining.

Cold seafood was normal, i.e. oysters, clams, crayfish etc.
As for desserts, nothing significantly good. Although they have introduced a second strawberry chocoloate fondeau. Also, there are cakes where you can coat them with chocolate.

Will I go back?

Depends if my usual buffet places are fully booked. I will consider. There are things that we value – lobsters, oysters, desserts, price for quality etc. The teppanyaki is good but its not a compelling factor for a second trip back

ReStore

We have passed by this cafe many time during lunch but have yet to try out the food.
The interior of the shop was very interesting as it was decorated with vintage tables and chairs.
ReStore also sells vintage furniture. You can also choose the colours of your vintage chair.

ReStore is located at 124 Tanjong Pager Road and they are open from Tuesday to Sunday.
The opening hours are:
Tue to Fri : 11am to 7pm
Sat and Sun: 11am to 6pm.

Website: http://restoreliving.blogspot.sg/

In terms of food items, it is fairly simple. They serve waffles, bagels and drinks.

Eng's Wanton Noodles

This is where you can get the famous Eng's Wanton Noodles.
Eng won the SPH Hawker Masters awards for Wanton Noodles last year.
Address:  287 Tanjong Katong Road.
Opening Hours: Daily from 11am to 9pm.
Previously, it was at Dunman Road Food Centre.
A bowl of Wanton Noodles cost $4 for a small portion or $5 for a big portion.
It is slightly expensive as compared to a other Wanton Noodles.
But, what made it so unique are:
  1. Ultra spicy chilli sauce - Simply put, if you cannot eat chilli padi on its own, then this amount (shown in picture below) is considered too much. If you are cannot take too spicy food, then a tiny weenie drop should work wonders for you.
  2. Generous serving of charsiew and wanton
  3. Handmade noodles - It's thicker and springy
Fried and Boiled Wanton - $4 for medium portion

Country Manna

Country Manna was one of the restaurants that I go to during my secondary school days.

I still remembered going to the branch at Century Square and feeling so excited as they have the Puff Pastry soup and it has this Player Piano that plays without a pianist.

Ever since they closed the outlet at Century Square and Suntec City, I have never seen a branch for several years. So I was so excited when I saw a Country Manna outlet at Suntec City.

The outlet at Suntec City was quite small.

We ordered the Set Lunch, which consists of their famous puff pastry soup, a main course, dessert, and a choice of coffee or tea.

Antoinette

After hearing so many reviews about the food and ambience, I just have to give it a try.

Antoinette is a quintessential Parisian patisserie, serving delicious pastries and desserts.
Antoinette is part of the Sugar Daddy Group, which is owned by Chef Pang, who was the ex-pastry chef of Canele.
There are 4 branches in Singapore - Penhas Road, Mandarin Gallery, Scarlet Hotel and Palais Renaissance.

My friend I chose the Mandarin Gallery branch as our girls' night out.
The plush and comfy chairs makes the place very cosy.
As there are limited space, do go earlier as they do not accept reservations.

As we wanted to try several of their popular dishes, we ordered both savoury and sweet crepes to try.

Ordered the French Apple Tart tea
Would prefer a black tea instead to pair with the sweet crepe.

Florentine - This is the lighter version, i.e. crepes with serrano ham, sunny side up and hollandaise sauce.

Pavlova - This dish consists of flambed caramalized banana, chocolate sauce, passionfruit banana sorbet, French meringue and vanilla creme Chantilly.

Food Tasting - IKYU

I was  invited to try out a new Japanese restaurant at Yong Siak Street called IKYU (pronounced as E-Q). It is a short walk away from Tiong Bahru station. Yong Siak is a quite a old estate. Found some quaint and modern shops along the stretch, i.e. a shop that sells penguin books. They also have many up and coming cafes located here, such as Forty Hands. Through this food tasting session, I had the opportunity to try out several items which I have always been wanting to try - whale meat, blow fish and the ultra expensive melon from Japan.

The restaurant has a very zen feeling, which makes the experience very comfortable.

We started off with a pear sake. This is a very easy to drink sake as it is sweet and when it is paired with the appetizer below, it enhances the different nuances of flavour of the appetizer.

Cream Cheese with Snapper Stomach - The saltiness of the cream cheese became sweet when you take this together with the fish stomach. This is the dish that makes the aftertaste so heavenly. This is not found in the menu

All the dishes are prepared by Executive Chef, Takuma Seki.
Chef Seki is formerly the chef-de-Cuisine of Hide Yamamoto at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Do opt for the counter seats as it is an enjoyable experience to listen to Chef Seki 's jokes.

At the end of the event, we had a nice USB souvenir in a wooden box. Really complements the Zen feeling very well
