Christmas 2011 - Turducken

Unlike every year, we decided to order a Turducken instead of a Turkey.

A turducken is a dish made of a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck, which is then stuffed into a deboned turkey. This gives the name tur-duc-ken (tur as in turkey, duc as in duck and ken as in chicken)

Cold Storage sells a turducken for at least SGD 200 while Gastronomia has a 5 bird turkey at SGD 420 for a 7kg bird. The 5 bird turkey consists of guinea fowl, chicken, wild duck, quail and turkey.

I have always wanted to try one turducken and we decided to try a roll instead.
Heard many good reviews about Friends @ Jelita and we bought a coupon from Groupon, where a 2kg Turducken cost $88.

This is just a 1kg Turducken roll. We had two of these.
In addition to the sauce, we bought a few items to go with the turducken, such as

Cranberry sauce
And BBQ beans
Corn...
This is how it looks like when you cut it.

My Ramblings...
Somehow, having a roll does not make the festive mood complete.
The roll is arranged with duck slices, chicken bits and covered with turkey chucks. All these ingredients is then wrapped with bacon to hold it in place.

I still miss cutting the turkey to slices (even if it is deboned).
So, for next year, I will stick to my Gastronomia deboned turkey.
What is Christmas without a whole turkey as the centrepiece of the dining table?
